A Magical place/Lieu féerique/En förtrollad plats

Ce soir, grâce à mon amie Jaqueline, j'ai pu visiter un lieu magique : Le Musée des Arts Forains aux Pavillons de Bercy, Paris 12eme. Parmi quelques heureux, j'étais donc invité à faire le tour de la collection fantastique de Jean-Paul Favand, unique dans son genre et le résultat des nombreuses années de recherche et de restauration. Tout étant dans un état parfait, on a pu essayer le carrousel, les jeux et écouter un opéra de quatre minutes dix performé dans une grande salle par des poupées mécaniques. On a aussi visité l’impressionnante réserve des chevaux et des couchons en bois, des poupées en cire et des têtes caricaturales.
C'était bien sûr l’occasion rêvée d'essayer mon nouvel objectif 24 mm, même si la lumière était un peu juste, voilà le résultat.

Tonight, thanks to my friend Jaqueline, I was able to visit a magical place: Le Musée des Arts Forains at Pavillons de Bercy, in the 12th arrondissement. Among some lucky people, I was invited for a special tour around the fantastic collection of Jean-Paul Favand, unique in its kind and the result of long years of searching and restoring. Since everything is in excellent shape, we could try the merry-go-round, the games and listen to an opera of four minutes and ten seconds performed in a big space by mechanical dolls. We also visited the impressive stock of horses and pigs in wood, wax dolls and charicaturical heads.
Even if the light was a bit low, it was of course an ideal oppurtunity for me to try my new 24 mm lense. You see the result above.

Ikväll hade jag tack vare min väninna Jaqueline, chansen att besöka en förtrollad plats: Le Musée des Arts Forains i Pavillons de Bercy, i det tolfte arrondissemanget. Bland några andra lyckligt lottade var jag inbjuden till en guidad visning av Jean-Paul Favands fantastiska samling, unik i sitt slag och resultatet av åratals efterforskning och restaurering. Eftersom allt är i perfekt skick, kunde vi pröva karusellen, spelattraktionerna och lyssna till en opera på fyra minuter och tio sekunder, uppförd i en stor sal av mekaniska dockor. Vi fick även besöka det imponerande reservlagret med hästar och grisar i trä, vaxdockor och karikatyrer av kända huvuden.
Även om ljuset var lite dåligt, var det förstås idealtillfället att pröva mitt nya 24 mm-objektiv. Här ovan ser ni resultatet.

A few days ago, one of my flickr photos was posted on lots of blogs - and seen by hundreds of people - in what seems to have been a chain reaction. I don't really understand this phenomenon, but it's quite impressive.

Il y a quelques jours, une de mes photos de flickr a été posté sur beaucoup de blogs - et vu par des centaines de personnes - dans ce qui me paraissait comme une réaction en chaine. Je ne comprends pas trop ce phénomène-là, mais c'est plutôt impressionant.

För ett par dagar sedan, blev en av mina bilder från flickr upplagd på en massa olika bloggar - och sedd av hundratals personer - i vad som tycks ha varit en kedjereaktion. Jag förstår inte helt och hållet fenomenet, men det gjorde stort intryck på mig.

A Wild affair/Ce n'est pas bien raisonnable/Hade jag verkligen råd med det här?

Dans un instant de boulimie d'achat, j'ai commande pas un, mais deux objectifs sur internet. Bon, ça fait un moment que j'y pense et quand je les ai trouvé chez mon vendeur préférée, je n'ai pas longtemps hésité. Un Nikon 35mm f 2.0 et un Nikon 24mm 2.8. Heureusement que mon salaire sera transferé sur mon compte en banque dans deux jours…

In a moment of shopping boulimia, I ordered not one but two new lenses on the internet. Ok, I've been thinking about it for a while and when I found them both at my favourite seller I didn't hesitate. A Nikon 35mm f 2.0 and a Nikon 24mm 2.8. Luckily, I'll have January's salary on my account in two days…

I ett ögonblick av shoppingbulimi, beställde jag inte ett utan två nya objektiv på internet. Ja, jag har funderat ett tag på det, och när jag fann dem båda hos min favoritförsäljare slog jag till. En Nikon 35mm f 2.0 och en Nikon 24mm 2.8. Tackochlov kommer lönen in på kontot om två dagar…

Rue de la Villette

Christophe Lepecq/Non-lieux 2004-2009

Cet après-midi, grâce à un ami de Flickr, Jean-Alain, j'ai fait la découvert d'un nouveau coin de Paris. Il s'agit de la rue de la Villette, près du métro Jourdain, dans le 19e arrondissement - un microcosme très sympa avec des bâtiments atypiques, des ruelles cachées et des petites commerces accueillantes.

D'abord on est allé faire un tour à la camera (au numéro 9), pour l'expo Non-lieux 2004 2009. On a eu la chance de rencontrer l'auteur lui-même, le photographe Christophe Lepecq. Il expose des photos d'architecture, démontrant des lieux plutôt techniques qu'esthétiques, mais qui pourtant invitent à la contemplation. Jusqu'au 30 janvier.
On a continué à La Librairie Photographique (n° 17) où Marc Pussemier propose une sélection de livres photos qui inspirent à l'achat - des grands classiques, à l'autoédition, en passant par un large choix de photographes contemporains très intéressants. Mon choix est tombé sur un revue belge que je ne connaissais pas : View (comme ce blog il est trilingue…).
Les murs de la librairie servent aussi de galerie. En ce moment ils exposent Do you know Syd Barrett?, des photographies par Benoît Grimalt. Jusqu'au 11 février.

Jean-Alain at/à/i La Librarie Photographique

This afternoon, thanks to a friend from Flickr, Jean-Alain, I discovered a new part of Paris. The street is called Rue de la Villette, and is situated in the 19e arrondissement, close to the métro station Jourdain. It's a charming neighbourhood with a mix of architectural styles, hidden alleys and nice little stores.

First we had a look at the exhibition Non-lieux 2004 2009 at la camera (on number 9), where we were lucky enough to run into the photographer himself, Christophe Lepecq. He's showing photos of architecture, rather the technical than the estethic aspects; but still inviting the viewer to a moment of contemplation. Until January, 30.
Then we headed over to La Librairie Photographique (number 17) where Marc Pussemier offers a selection of photo books that urges you to shop. You'll find big classics as well as selfproduced, independant titles, and inbetween there, a good deal of books with interesting contemporary photography. I finally fell for a belgian magazine that I didn't know of before: View (like this blog it is trilingual…).
The walls of the bookstore is also used as a gallery. At the moment you'll find the exposition
Do you know Syd Barrett?, with photos by Benoît Grimalt. Until February 11.

The magazine/le revue/tidskriften View

I eftermiddags upptäckte jag tack vare en vän från Flickr, Jean-Alain, ett nytt kvarter i Paris: Rue de la Villette, nära metrostationen Jourdain i 19e arrondissemanget. Det är en mysig gata med en härlig blandning av olika byggstilar, undangömda gränder och inbjudande små butiker.
Först begav vi oss till la camera (på nummer 9) för utställningen Non-lieux 2004 2009, där vi hade turen att stöta på fotografen själv, Christophe Lepecq. Utställningen består av arkitekturbilder, mer med tonvikt på den tekniska än på den estetiska aspekten, men som ändock inbjuder till eftertanke. T.o.m. 30 januari.
Vi fortsatte till La Librairie Photographique (nummer 17) där Marc Pussemier erbjuder ett urval fotoböcker som helt klart gör en köpsugen. Från stora klassiker till mindre, självfinansierade utgåvor, och däremellan en imponerande samling titlar kring intressant nutida fotografi. Mitt val föll till slut på en belgisk tidskrift som jag inte kände till sedan innan : View (liksom denna blogg är den trespråkig…).

Bokhandelns väggar fungerar också som galleri. Just nu kan man se utställningen Do you know Syd Barrett?, med foton av Benoît Grimalt. T.o.m. 11 februari.

La Marie du 10e arrondissement n'est pas seulement un très bel immeuble. C'est aussi le lieu d’une très bonne bibliothèque publique, la Bibliothèque Château d'Eau, spécialisée sur la photo. On y trouve 2 500 ouvrages sur la photographie ainsi que 9 abonnements à des revues spécialisées et un dossier sur l'actualité photo.
Aujourd'hui, en y passant, j'en ai profité pour emprunter un manuel sur Lightroom, publié par l'excellent éditeur Eyrolles.

The city hall of Paris 10th arrondissement is not only a beautiful building. It is also the place of a very good public library, la Bibliothèque Château d'Eau, specialized in photography. You here find 2 500 photo books, subscriptions to 9 specialized magazines and information about different activities concerning photography.
Today, while passing by, I borrowed a manual about Lightroom, from the excellent publisher Eyrolles.

Rådhuset i Paris tionde arrondissemang är inte bara en mycket ståtlig byggnad. Det inhyser även ett mycket bra bibliotek öppet för allmänheten, la Bibliothèque Château d'Eau, med specialinriktning på fotografi. Här kan man hitta 2 500 fotoböcker, 9 olika tidskrifter, samt information om olika aktiviteter inom området.
Då jag idag hade vägarna förbi, passade jag på att låna en handbok i Lightroom, utgiven av det utmärkta faktaboksförlaget Eyrolles.

Backup/Sauvegarde/Säkerhetskopia

After a good advice from my brother, I decided to play it safe and get a backup account on the Internet for my photos. I choose Mozy, because it seemed like an affordable solution that is a)Mac compatible b)quite easy to comprehend, even when you're not a geek. I found a promotion code online, so for unlimited space, I pay $46,29 a year.
You have to keep in mind, though, that if you erase a file on your computer, Mozy will erase the same within 30 days. So it does not work like an external harddrive, where you have constant access to your files, but what you got is a safety copy in case of a computer crash.

Après un bon conseil de mon frère, j'ai décidé de m'assurer et prenant un compte de sauvegarde sur Internet pour mes photos. J'ai choisi Mozy, parce qu'il m'a semblé être un solution bon rapport qualité-prix, qui est a) compatible Mac b)pas trop compliqué, même si tu n'es pas un geek. J'ai trouvé un code de promotion en ligne, et pour une année, stockage sans limites, je paie $46,29.
Bon, il faut se souvenir que si tu supprimes un fichier sur ton ordi, Mozy va supprimer le même fichier dans un délai de 30 jours. Donc, ça ne fonctionne pas comme un disque dur externe, où l’on a l'accès tout le temps à ses fichiers, mais par contre on aura une copie de sécurité dans le cas d'un crash d'ordinateur.

Efter ett gott råd från min bror, beslöt jag mig för att köra säkert och skaffa ett backup-konto på Internet för mina bilder. Jag valde Mozy, därför att det verkade som ett privärt alternativ som är a) Mac-kompatibelt b) inte alltför krångligt även om man inte är geek. Jag hittade en förmånskod på nätet, så för ett års obegränsad back-up betalar jag $46,29.
Man måst dock komma ihåg att om man raderar en fil på sin dator, kommer Mozy att radera samma fil inom 30 dagar. Det fungerar alltså inte som en extern hårddisk, där man hela tiden har tillgång till sina filer, men vad man har, är en säkerhetskopia, om man olyckligtvis skulle råka ut för att hårddisken kraschar.
