Villes portuaires/Port towns/Hamnstäder

Tomorrow I'm putting up a new exhibition of mine at La Maison du Canal : "Villes portuaires". The theme is ports, waterfronts and boats and the photos are from Sweden, France, Morocco and Switzerland. Apart from the 25 pictures hanging on the "grids" in the windows, I have also created a slideshow for the occasion, with more 60 different images.

For those who want to come to the opening, it's actually more of a "closing" — because of the christmas holidays — and it will take place on the 7th of January 2011 at 6 pm. Welcome to join in!

Demain j'accroche ma nouvelle expo photo à La Maison du Canal intitulée "Villes portuaires". Le thème, c'est les ports, les quais et les bateaux et les photos sont prises en Suède, en France, au Maroc et en Suisse. À part les 25 images qui vont être placés sur les grilles dans la vitrine, j'ai aussi créé un diaporama pour l'occasion, avec 60 photos différentes.

Pour ceux qui voudrait venir pour le vernissage, il y aura plutôt un "finissage" – à cause des fêtes – et celui-ci aura lieu le 7 janvier 2011 à 18h. Soyez les bienvenus !

Imorgon ska jag hänga upp en ny utställning med mina bilder på La Maison du Canal : "Villes portuaires". Temat är hamnar, kajer och båtar och fotografierna är tagna i Sverige, Frankrike, Marocko och Schweiz. Förutom de 25 bilder som kommer att sitta på "gallren" i skyltfönstren, har jag även satt ihop ett speciellt bildband med över 60 foton. 

For de som vill komma på vernissagen, kommer denna att äga rum på utställnigens sista dag – detta p.g.a. helgerna – alltså den 7 januari 2011 kl. 18.00. Välkomna! 

A good cause/Pour la bonne cause/För ett gott ändamål

From time to time, I get requests from people who want to use an image of mine that they have seen on Flickr. When it's a commercial thing, for example a traveller's guide, and the deal is they credit you, but don't pay you, I find it annoying. But if it is for a good cause, political or educational, I always accept. 
This was the case when Barbora, from czech NGO "Society for fair trade", asked to use my photo of an equatorian worker (above) for their part of the international campaign Rights for people, rules for business (www.rightsforpeople.org). This is what she has to tell about it :

"We prepared our exhibition on the occasion of World day for decent work; a topic closely related to that of companies making products at any cost - which includes the cost of violating labour and human rights. We chose ten principles of decent work (for example no child labour, no forced labour, no sexual harassment, decent wages, decent working hours etc.) and we found case studies for each of those principles. One of these principles was that of freedom for trade unions and collective bargaining and we found a case study about Chiquita's and Dole's behaviour towards workers who wanted to join trade unions. The two companies paid paramilitary groups in Colombia for "guarding" their plantations - which in reality meant threatening, kidnapping, physical attacks and murder. The victims were workers who joined or wanted to join trade unions to defend their rights. The two companies are now on trial as some 75 relatives and former workers took them to court. Il m'arrive de temps en temps, d'être contactée par des gens qui veulent publier un de mes images qu'ils ont vu sur Flickr. Si c'est dans un but commercial, par exemple pour un guide de voyage, et qu'on me dit qu'on va me créditer mais pas me payer, cela m'agace plutôt. Par contre pour une bonne cause, politique ou culturelle, j'accepte volontiers.
C'était le cas quand Barbora, d'ONG Tchèque "Society for fair trade", m'a demandé si elle pouvait utiliser ma photo d'un ouvrier equatorien (ci-dessus) pour la partie tchèque du campagne Rights for people, rules for business (www.rightsforpeople.org). Voilà ce qu'elle nous raconte :

"On a préparé notre exposition à l'occasion de la journée mondiale pour le travail décent; un sujet proche de celui des entreprises qui créent leurs produits à n'importe quel prix - ce qui veut aussi dire le coût des violations des droits de l'homme et les droits du travail. On a choisi dix principes qui déterminent le travail décent (par exemple pas de travail d'enfant, pas de travail forcé, pas de harcèlement sexuel, des salaires décents, des horaires décents etc.) et l'on a trouvé des études de cas pour chaque principe. Un des principes, c'était pour la liberté des syndicats et les négociations collectives, où l'on a trouvé une étude sur le comportement de Chiquita et Dole envers les ouvriers qui ont voulu joindre le syndicat. Les deux entreprises ont payé des groupes paramilitaires en Colombie pour "surveiller" leurs plantations - ce qui veut dire en réalité des menaces, de l'enlèvement, des attaques physiques et des meurtres. Les victims étaient des ouvriers qui ont rejoint ou qui voulaient rejoindre le syndicat pour défendre leurs droits. Les deux entreprises sont maintenant au tribunal, parce qu'environ 75 proches et anciens employés les ont trainé devant la justice. Då och då händer det att jag får en förfrågan om att använda ett av mina foton, från någon som har sett bilden på Flickr. Om det hela är kommersiellt, t.ex. för en reseguide, och överenskommelsen är att jag får äran men inte en spänn för besväret, blir jag lätt irriterad. Men då det finns ett bra ändamål bakom, politiskt eller kulturellt, känns det kul att tacka ja.
Det var fallet när Barbora, från tjeckiska organisationen"Society for fair trade", bad att få använda mitt foto av en arbetare i Ecuador (ovan) för den tjeckiska delen av den internationella kampanjen Rights for people, rules for business (www.rightsforpeople.org). Det här är vad hon har att berätta :

"Vi förberedde vår utställning med anledning av Världsdagen för anständigt arbete; en fråga som ligger nära den om företag som gör produkter till vilket pris som helst - vilket inkluderar brott mot mänskliga och arbetsmiljömässiga rättigheter. Vi valde ut tio principer kring anständigt arbete (t.ex. nej till barnarbete, nej till arbetstvång, nej till sexuella trakasserier, rätt till anständig lön, rätt till anständiga löner etc.) och vi hittade fallstudier som illustrerade var och en av dessa principer. En princip var rätten till fria fackföreningar och kollektivavtal och vi fann där en fallstudie kring Chiquitas och Doles behandling av arbetare som ville ansluta sig till facket. De två företagen betalade paramilitära grupper i Columbia för att "vakta" deras plantager - villket i själva verket har inneburit hot, kidnappning, fysiskt våld och mord. Offren var arbetare som anslutit sig eller ville ansluta sig till facket för att försvara sina rättigheter. Båda företagen är nu i domstol, då omkring 75 släktingar och f.d. anställda har dragit dem inför rätta. Du kan hitta mer information om detta på www.corporatewatch.org."

New look/Nouveau design/Nya tag

My website has just got a necessary face lift! I've put in a lot of new photos and thanks to the Lightroom plugin LRB Exposition, a new design as well. I did the old one with another Sean McCormack creation, the LRB Portfolio, and I really liked it, but I felt one need to change from time to time in order to develop. Let me know what you think of it!

Mon site web vient juste d'avoir le petit lifting dont il avait besoin! J'ai mis beaucoup de photos nouvelles et grâce au plugin de Lightroom, LRB Exposition, le design a changé en plus. J'avais fait mon ancien site avec un autre création de Sean McCormack, le LRB Portfolio, et j'ai vraiment aimé, mais j'ai senti qu'il faut changer de temps en temps pour rester jeune. Dites-moi ce que vous en pensez !

Min websida har precis fått en liten men nödvändig ansiktslyftning! Jag har lagt till en massa nya bilder och dessutom förnyat designen tack vare en Lightroom-plugin som heter LRB Exposition. Jag hade gjort den förra med en annan skapelse av Sean McCormack creation, LRB Portfolio, och jag var verkligen nöjd med den, men jag kände att det var dags med lite nya tag för att fräscha upp det hela.
