Visa pour l'image 2010 (part 1/1er partie/del 1)

 

Visa pour l'image is an annual, international festival for photojournalism in Perpignan, in the south of France. This year it takes place for the 22th time, between the 28th of August and the 12th of September. During these two weeks, a great crowd invades the city and there are exhibitions without any entrance fee just about everywhere.

Visa pour l'image est un festival international de photojournalisme qui se produit chaque rentrée à Perpignan. Cette année, c'est la 22e édition qui se déroule entre le 28 août et le 12 septembre. Pendant deux semaines, la ville connaît une vraie invasion des photophiles et il y a des expos à entrée libre partout.

Visa pour l'image heter den årliga internationella reportagefotofestivalen i Perpignan i södra Frankrike. I år är det den 22a upplagan och den pågår mellan den 28 augusti och den 12 september. Under två veckors tid invaderas staden av fotoälskare och det finns utställningar att se kostnadsfritt överallt.

 

With my swiss friend, photographer Francesca, I went there for a couple of days to stroll around and feel the atmosphere of this very special event. We saw almost all the official shows, like here above one of our absolute favourites, the photos by Andrea Star Reese of homeless people. The other two shows I really recommend is the work on american polygamy by Stephanie Sinclair (that won an award during the days we where there) and "Ian Fisher, american soldier" by Craig F. Walker. 

Avec une copine suisse, la photographe Francesca, je suis allée à Perpignan quelques jours pour découvrir ce festival célèbre. On a eu le temps de voir presque toutes les expos officielles, comme ci-dessus un de nos coups de cœur absolu, les photos des sans-abris par Andrea Star Reese. Les autres deux dans mon top trois sont le travail sur la polygamie aux États-Unis par Stephanie Sinclair (qui a gagné un prix pendant le temps qu'on y était) et "Ian Fisher, soldat américain" par Craig F. Walker.

Jag åkte till Perpignan ett par dagar med min schweiziska kompis, fotografen Francesca, för att glida runt och känna av stämningen på det här mycket speciella evenemanget. Vi hann med att se nästan alla de officiella utställningarna, som här ovan en av våra absoluta favoriter, Andrea Star Reeses foton av hemlösa. De andra två utställningarna som jag absolut kan rekommendera är Stephanie Sinclair serie kring polygami i USA (som vann en utmärkelse under den tiden som jag var på festivalen) och "Ian Fisher, amerikansk soldat" av Craig F. Walker.  

Exhibitions of varying quality, not included in the official program, is known as the "Festival Off". Above, strong photos of mentally sick people, viewed as "possesed", in Madagascar by Patrick Castagnas, showed in the window of the local grocery store.

Des expos — de qualité variée, il faut le dire — qui ne sont pas inclus dans le programme officiel, sont connus comme le "Festival Off". Ci-dessus, des images très fortes des malades mentaux au Madagascar, des gens considérés comme "possédés", photographié par  Patrick Castagnas et exposés dans la vitre du supermarché local.

Utställningar av varierande kvalitet som inte ingår i det officiella programmet, går under namnet "Festival Off". I skyltfönstret till det lokala snabbköpeten visas t.ex. en serie mycket starka bilder av mentalsjuka människor — de anses vara "besatta"— fotograferade på Madagaskar av Patrick Castagnas.
