Parr-anormal activity at the Goutte d'Or

Si le photographe de Magnum Martin Parr a vu "The Goutte d'Or" avec des yeux de touriste, à son vernissage à l'Institut des cultures d'islam,  il était quand même accueilli comme une vraie star !
Magnum photographer Martin Parr might have seen "The Goutte d'Or" with the eyes of a tourist, but at the opening of his new show at the Institut des Cultures d'Islam, he was recieved like the star he is!  
Måhända att Magnum-fotografen Martin Parr fångat kvarteret "The Goutte d'Or" med en turists ögon, men på vernissagen av den nya utställningen på Institut des cultures d'islam, blev han mottagen som den stjärna han är!

L'exposition est le résultat d'une semaine de documentation photographique intense, commandé par l'ICI, de ce microcosme très dense et ces habitants. Beaucoup de gens sont venus partager l'inventaire de Martin Parr, de ce quartier multiethnique à Paris. Les opinions étaient diverses. Tandis que certains, comme moi et ma copine Betül (qui m'a aimablement proposé de venir au vernissage avec elle), adorent le style photographique de Sir Parr et apprécient son sens de l'humour, il y avait aussi un critique concernant la manque de subtilité, en soulignant l'importance de passer plus de temps avec les gens qu'on photographie.Je trouve que cette exposition montre un courage de la part d'ICI, et qu'elle remplie bien les objectifs en donnant une perspective fraîche, autre de ce qu'on a l'habitude d'entendre dans les médias, très focalisés sur les problèmes de la Goutte d'Or. Ces photos vont sans aucune doute avoir un grand succès, et peut-être, je l'espère, cela va ouvrir une voie pour d'autres photographes, qui ont choisi de s'approcher ce genre de sujet, de manière plus profond.  
Pour l'instant, venez découvrir les commercents du quartier, les prières dans la mosque, le hammam et autre situations emblematiques de ce quartier atypiquement Parr-isien. Après, en sortant, le reste sera en V.O. Jusqu'au 2 juillet

The work presented here is the result of one intense week of documenting this unique neighbourhood and its inhabitants. A huge crowd had gathered to see the result of Martin Parr's fastforward track of a multiethnical area in the middle of Paris. The opinions were separated. While some, like me and my friend Betül (who kindly shared her invitation with me) love the photographic style of Sir Parr and appreciate his sense of humour, there was some criticism around concerning the lack of depth, and the need for a more timeconsuming approach to the people in the pictures.
I think this show proves a lot of courage from the ICI, and gives a fresh view, different from the usual problemoriented media coverage of the Goutte d'Or. These photos will undoubtly attract a lot of viewers, and perhaps, hopefully, this will open up a field for other photographers, who has chosen to approach this kind of subject in a more profound way.  
But right now, come to discover the shopkeepers, the prayers in the mosque, the hammam and other typical situations in this atypical part of Parr-is. Afterwards, out in the street, you'll have the un-dubbed version. Until July, 2

Fotografierna som presenteras är resultatet av en veckas intensivt arbete, med att dokumentera den här unika stadsdelen och dess invånare. En stor skara hade slutit upp för att beskåda resultatet av Martin Parrs snabba framfart i detta mångkulturella kvarter, mitt i Paris. Meningarna var delade. Medan några, som jag och min kompis Betül (som snällt nog bjudit med mig på vernissagen) älskar Sir Parrs bildspråk och hans sinne för humor, fanns det en viss kritik mot bristen på djup, och en del menade att det måste få ta mer tid att närma sig de människor man fotograferar.

Jag tycker att utställningen visar på en stor portion mod från ICI, och ger ett fräscht perspektiv på Goutte d'Or, annat än den väldigt ensidiga, problemfixerade nyhetsbevakningen. Säkerligen kommer dessa bilder att nå ut till en stor publik, och kanske, förhoppningsvis, kommer detta att öppna upp för andra fotografer, som valt att närma sig ämnet på ett mer djupsinnigt vis.
