Fresh, innocent, radical, new, naïve, upcoming… there are many meanings to the word "young". For the second time, Fetart organizes Circulation(s), festival for young, european photography, where this year 44 happily chosen represent the next generation of fine art and reportage photographers.

Fraîche, innocente, radicale, nouvelle, naïve, émérgeante… "jeune", ça veut dire beaucoup de choses. Pour la deuxième fois, l'association Fetart organise Circulation(s), festival pour la jeune photographie européenne, où, cette année, 44 heureux sélectionnés représentent la prochaine génération de photographes auteurs.

Friskt, oskyldigt, radikalt, nytt, naivt, lovande… det finns många möjliga tolkningar till ordet "ungt". För andra året i rad, presenterar föreningen Fetart Circulation(s) festivalen för ungt, europeiskt fotografi. Här får 44 lyckligt utvalda representera nästa generation konst- och reportagefotografer.

Jeune photographe et graphiste, Guillaume Thiriet, élève de troisième année à ENS Louis Lumière, s'est lancé dans l'autoédition. Avec talent, il fait cohabiter des images de plusieurs photographes dans des livres très personnels. Dans "Je te", ce sont les photos de Guillaume et sa copine Julie qui se croisent, chacun littéralement dans son sens (voir ci-dessus). Dans "Rien", des photos en noir et blanc, avec le beau grain propre à l'argentique, nous emmène dans un univers imprégné de noirceur.
Les deux livres sont distribués par Micr0lab et sont en vente à la librairie Yvon Lambert. Il n'y a que 30 exemplaires de chacun, donc à s'en procurer urgemment !

Young photographer and graphic designer, Guillaume Thiriet, a third-year student at the ENS Louis Lumière, is deeply into self publishing. With lots of talent, he succeeds in making images from several photographers work together in his very personal books. In "Je te", it's photos taken by Guillaume and his girlfriend Julie that comes together, each one literally in their own direction (above). In "Rien", black and white photos, with the beautiful grain that goes with analogue photography, takes us to a world tainted by darkness.
Both books are distributed by Micr0lab and you can buy them at the Yvon Lambert bookstore. There are only 30 copies of each, so you better hurry up! 

Guillaume Thiriet, lovande ung fotograf och grafisk formgivare, tredjeårselev på fotoskolan ENS Louis Lumière, har startat sin egen bokutgivning. Med stor talang lyckas han sätta samman bilder från olika fotografer till mycket personliga böcker. I "Je te" möts foton tagna av Guillaume och hans flickvän Julie, där var och en bokstavligt talat drar åt sitt håll (se ovan). I "Rien" handlar det om svartvita bilder, med det vackra grynet typiskt för analog fotografi, som tar oss med till en värld genomsyrad av mörker.
Båda böckerna distribueras av Micr0lab och finns till försäljning i bokhandeln till galleriet Yvon Lambert. Det finns bara 30 exemplar av vardera titeln, så det är bäst att skynda sig på

Carnival in/Carnaval à/Karneval i Paris

Last Sunday the Paris carnival took place. It was a beautiful day, sunny but could. As part of a project, I followed a Bolivian group, from putting on their costumes at the Mairie de 20e arr. at 11p.m., until the arrival of the procession to the City Hall around 8 p.m. Just walking around taking photos all day was a true effort for my feet, so I really admire all the carnival participants for their incredible energy!

Dimanche dernier, c'était le carnaval de Paris. Une très belle journée, le soleil brillait, mais il faisait quand même très froid. Pour un projet, j'ai suivi un troupe bolivien, à partir de 11h, à la Mairie de 20e arr. (pour les habillages) jusqu'à l'arrivée de la cortège à l'Hôtel de Ville à 20h. Juste faire des photos toute la journée m'a donné des pieds bien fatigués, donc je ne peux qu'admirer tous les participants du carnaval pour leur énergie incroyable !

I söndags var det karneval här i Paris. Det var en mycket vacker dag, soligt men kallt. Som en del i ett projekt, föjde jag en boliviansk grupp från det att de klädde om i 20e arrondissemangets rådhus på förmiddagen, till det att processionen anlände till Hôtel de Ville vid åttasnåret på kvällen. Bara att gå runt och fotografera hela dagen gav mig trötta fötter, så jag är full av beundran för de outröttliga karnevalsdeltagarna!

What an evening! Lots of people showed up when photo agency Myop presented their  book Révolution, by photographers Guillaume Binet, Lionel Charrier and Julien Daniel, at Le BAL bookshop tonight. I had a great time, meeting, among others, Oliver Jobard, Myop photographer, who spoke at my school EMI-CFD the other night, Jaques Graf, portrait photographer and guest teacher at my school, Ulrich Lebeuf, Myop photographer, Sandra Schmalz, upcoming German-born photographer already presented on this blog, Eric Valdenaire, still life photographer who last year attended the Speos photography school, Sara Giulattini from Le BAL who is going to do portfolio lectures at the 2012 edition of the festival Circulations, and of course all those from my class at the EMI-CFD… A cold winter night in Paris became at once a warm place to be! Thanks to Le Bal and Sebastian from their bookshop who organized the event and to Myop, who accepted the invitation.

Quelle soirée ! Beaucoup de monde lorsque l'agence Myop lancçit leur livre Révolution, avec des images des photographes Guillaume Binet, Lionel Charrier et Julien Daniel, à la librairie de centre photographique Le BAL ce soir. J'ai passé un très bon moment, croisant entre autres Oliver Jobard, photographe de Myop, qui a parlé l'autre soir à mon école EMI-CFD, Jaques Graf, photographe portraitiste et prof intervenant à mon école, Ulrich Lebeuf, photographe de Myop, Sandra Schmalz, photographe allemande talentueuse qui vit à Paris (déjà présentée sur ce blog), Eric Valdenaire, photographe spécialisé en nature morte et dans la promo de l'école Spéos l'année dernière, Sara Giulattini de Le BAL qui fera des lectures de portfolio au festival Circulations en mars, et bien sûr le gens présentes de ma promo de photoj à EMI-CFD… Une nuit très froid à Paris s'est transformé en rencontre chaleureux grâce à Sebastian qui tient la libraire de Le BAL et qui avait organisé cet événement et à Myop qui a accepté l'invitation.

Vilken kväll! Mycket folk blev det då fotoagenturen Myop lanserade sin nya bok Révolution av fotograferna Guillaume Binet, Lionel Charrier och Julien Daniel i Le BALs bokhandel. Så trevligt, jag träffade bland andra Oliver Jobard, Myop-fotograf, som höll ett föredrag på min skola EMI-CFD härom kvällen, Jaques Graf, porträttfotograf och gästlärare på min skola, Ulrich Lebeuf, Myop-fotograf, Sandra Schmalz, tyskfödd fototalang på uppgående och redan presenterad här på bloggen, Eric Valdenaire, stilleben-fotograf som gick på Speos fotoskola förra året, Sara Giulattini från Le BAL som kommer att hålla portfoliovisningar på 2012 års upplaga av festivalen Circulations, och förstås ett flertal av mina klasskamrater från EMI-CFD… En kall vinterkväll i Paris blev med ens en varm plats att vistas på! Tack till Le BAL och Sebastian, ansvarig för deras bokhandel, som hade organiserat evenemanget och till Myop som tackade ja till inbjudan.

21 voix pour 2012 (21 voices for 2012) is a project I do with 20 other photojournalists. For the french elections, we are interviewing 21 french citizens about their expectations on the futur president. The result is going to be visible on a multimedia platform and you can support its creation by making a small (or big!) contribution on the crowdfunding website Kisskissbankbank. (click on the link to see the excellent teaser where we present the project). I'm portraying Delphine, a young law graduate (on the photo above). She is talking about life after university, her work as a volonteer among homeless people and her view on french unemployment politics.

21 voix pour 2012 est un projet sur lequel je travaille. 21 photojournalistes y interrogent 21 français, venant de tout l'hexagone, sur leurs attentes du futur président à l'occasion des élections présidentielles de 2012. Le résultat sera présenté sous forme d'une platforme multimédia et vous pouvez nous soutenir en faisant un petit (ou grand!) don sur le site crowdfunding de Kisskissbankbank (cliquer sur le lien pour regarder notre excellent teaser pour le projet). J'y fais le portrait de Delphine, une jeune diplômée en droit, qui parle de la vie après le fac, son travail en tant que bénévole auprès des sans-abris et sa vision de la situation pour les jeunes diplômés sans emploi en France.

Inför det franska presidentvalet intervjuar vi 21 franska medborgare om deras förväntningar på den kommande presidenten. Photographer Max Pam takes us on a very personal trip to the vibrating streets of Sanaa, in a country where ancient cities rise on the brink of the desert. Year of the Dragon/L'année du dragon/Drakens år

The chinese new year is celebrated every year in my neighbourhood. It's not a big parade like in the 13th or the 3rd arrondissements of Paris, but it certainly has a lot of charm to it. A group of young people, led by their coach, goes around to all the chinese shops and performs the lion dance. If I'm around, I try to snap some shots. Above the result in images of 2012's celebration.

Le nouvel an chinois se fête chaque année dans mon quartier. Ce n'est pas un grand défilé comme dans le 3eme ou le 13eme arr. de Paris, par contre il ne manque pas de charme. Un groupe de jeunes, avec leur entraineur en tête, fait le tour des magasins chinois pour faire la danse de lion. Si je suis dans le coin, j'essaie toujours de capturer quelques images. Ci-dessus le résultat en images des festivités de 2012.

Det kinesiska nyåret firas alltid i mitt kvarter. Det är inte en stor parad som i Paris 3e eller 13e arrondissemang, men det saknar inte för den skull charm. En grupp ungdomar, med sin tränare i täten, går runt till alla kinesiska handlare och uppför lejondansen. Om jag finns på plats, passar jag  på att ta lite bilder. Här ovan ser ni resultatet från 2012 års firande.

Lucas Dolega was a young photojournalist who was tragically killed last year, while reporting from the Jasmine revolution in Tunisia. In honor of his memory, an award has been created by the Lucas Dolega Association, in partnership with the Mairie de Paris, Polka Magazine and with support from Reporters sans frontières.
Tonight it was given out for the first time at the Hôtel de Ville by the mayor of Paris, Mr. Bertrand Delanoë. Out of 130 reportages, the jury has chosen the work of Spanish Associated Press photographer Emilio Morenatti, "Displaced in Tunisia", about refugees on the tunisian border, fleeing the war in Libya. The winner came in person to accept the prize, an endowment of 10 000 euros from Nikon. His photos are going to be exhibited in Paris at the UPP gallery.

Lucas Dolega, un jeune photojournaliste, a tragiquement été tué l'année dernière pendant la révolution de Jasmin en Tunisie. En son mémoire, un prix a été crée par le Lucas Dolega Association, en partenariat avec la Mairie de Paris, Polka Magazine et avec le soutien de Reporters sans frontières.
Ce soir, le premier lauréat a été annoncé à l'Hôtel de Ville par le maire de Paris, Monsieur Bertrand Delanoë. Parmi 130 reportages, le jury a récompensé celui d'un photographe espagnol qui travaille pour Associated Press, Emilio Morenatti. "Displaced in Tunisia" montre des réfugies sur la frontière tunisienne qui s'enfuient de la guerre en Libye. Le lauréat est venu en personne pour recevoir le prix, un dotation de 10 000 euros de Nikon. Ses photos vont être exposées plus tard à Paris dans l'espace d'UPP.

Philippe Calandre is a photographer who recreates and repaints factories out of authentic  photographic images, then places them into unreal settings, detaching them further from their original function. He thus invites us to imagine a story far away from the dust and the noise of a real industrial environment. Right now you can see his interesting work (exhibited together with a series of beautiful black and white photos called "Secret City" by Jason Langer ) at the Galerie Esther Woerdehoff in Paris. Until February 8.

Philippe Calandre est un photographe qui recrée et repeint des usines à partir des vraies images photographiques, puis les place dans un décor irréel, les détachant encore plus de leur fonction première. Il nous invite à imaginer une histoire, loin de la poussière et du bruit de leur environnement industriel initial. En ce moment, vous pouvez découvrir son œuvre intriguante (exposée en même temps qu'une belle série de photos en noir et blanc intitulée "Secret City" par Jason Langer ) à la Galerie Esther Woerdehoff à Paris. Jusqu'au 8 février.

Philippe Calandre är en fotograf som återskapar och målar om fabriker utifrån existerande fotografier, och sedan placerar dem i märkliga miljöer, för att på så sätt ytterligare distansera dem från deras verkliga funktion. Han inbjuder oss så att skapa vår egen historia kring dem, långt ifrån damemt och bullret som hör till en autentisk industrimiljö. Just nu finns hans bilder att se (tilsammans med en serie vackra, svartvita bilder med namnet "Secret City" av Jason Langer ) på Galerie Esther Woerdehoff i Paris. T.o.m. 8 februari.

La Bourse du Talent is an annual contest for young and upcoming photographers, with awards in four different categories: Portrait, fashion, landscape and reportage. It is organized by Photographie.com, Picto, Nikon and Initiatives and you can see work from the 2011 winners right now at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, BnF. Above two of my favourites of this year's edition; Sarah Carp with her work on organ donation (reportage) and Julie Fischer (landscape) with her series "Les Passeurs". Until February 19, 2012.

Black and white Sweden/La Suède en noir et blanc/Sverige i svartvitt

As most years, I spent christmas with my family in Sweden. Unfortunately, there was no snow. This made the surroundings seem a little more gloomy, since there are not many hours of daylight at this time of the year. But it didn't stop me from heading out with my camera to catch some typical suburbian views. I chose black and white to enhance the graphic part of the compositions.

Comme le plus souvent, j'ai passé noël auprès de ma famille en Suède cette année. Malheureusement, il n'y avait pas de neige. Du coup, l'environnement semble un peu sinistre, parce que les heures de lumière de jour ne sont pas très nombreuses en cette période de l'année. Cependant, ça ne m'a pas empeché de sortir faire des photos pour choper quelques vues de banlieue typiques. J'ai choisi le noir et blanc pour souligner le côté graphique de mes compositions.

Som oftast, tillbringade jag julen med min familj i Sverige. Tyvärr var det ingen snö i år. Det får allt att te sig lite dystert, eftersom det inte är ljust så många timmar om dagen. Men det hindrade inte mig från att ge mig ut med kameran och försöka fånga några typiska förortsmotiv. Jag har valt att visa bilderna i svartvitt för att understryka det grafiska i mina kompositioner.

La Lettre de la Photographie

La Lettre de la Photographie is an excellent newsletter to follow different events in photography on a daily basis. During the holidays, they also show photos from photographers/readers, this time on the theme of "celebration". Today I was among the happy few to have my work published online!

La Lettre de la Photographie est un excellent moyen de se tenir au courant quotidiennement avec ce qui se passe dans la photographie. Pendant les vacances, on publie aussi des images des photographes/lecteurs du site, en ce moment sur le thème des "fêtes". Aujourd'hui, j'étais parmi les heureux sélectionnés publiés en ligne!

La Lettre de la Photographie är ett utmärkt nyhetsbrev som dagligen tar upp vad som är på gång inom fotografin. Under loven, visar de också bilder från olika fotografer/läsare, just nu på temat "fest". Idag fanns jag bland de lyckliga utvalda och fick en bild publicerad på deras sida på nätet!

I have in fact already shown work of Stéphanie Lacombe on this blog. What I find fascinating about this young photographer, who was awarded the Niépce price in 2009, is how she can create the most intimate work, then switch back to a style that is quite the opposite. Last time I wrote about her, was after being seduced by her very personal photos at the gallery La Petite Poule Noire. This time, something completely different, but of equal quality: a documentary study of the finnish peope at their dinner tables. I highly recommend a visit of the exhibition at the Institut finlandais in Paris. Until January 7th, closed for holiday Dec 21-Jan 2.

Souvenez-vous, j'ai déjà montré le travail de Stéphanie Lacombe sur ce blog. Ce que je trouve fascinant avec cette jeune photographe, qui a été attribuée le prix Niépce en 2009, c'est sa capacité de créer un travail d'auteur très personnel, puis retourner vers un registre qui se trouve à l'opposé. La dernière fois que j'ai parlé d'elle, c'était après avoir eu un coup de cœur pour ses photographies très intimes à la galerie La Petite Poule Noire. Cette fois, il s'agit de quelque chose complètement différent, mais d'une qualité égale : une série documentaire des finlandais à table. Je vous conseil d'aller voir l'expo à l'Institut finlandais à Paris. Jusq'au 7 janvier, fermé pour les fêtes entre le 21 déc-2 jan.

Jag har faktiskt redan visat Stéphanie Lacombes bilder på den här bloggen. Vad som fascinerar mig hos den här unga fotografen, som tilldelades Niépce-priset 2009, är hur hon kan skapa så otroligt intima verk, för att sedan gå tillbaka till en stil som är den rakt motsatta. Sist jag skrev om henne, var efter att ha tilltalats av hennes mycket personlig bildspråk på galleriet La Petite Poule Noire. Den här gången är det något helt annat, men av lika hög kvalitet: en dokumentär studie av finländarnas middagsbord. Utställningen finns att se på Institut finlandais här i Paris. T.o.m. 7 januari, helgstängt den 21 dec-2 jan.

Paris Photo has in a few years grown into THE big thing for photographic galleries around the world to meet their french and european audience. Terribly successful, the 2011 edition was held in the Grand Palais, with huge masses of people lining up to get inside. But for those who did not want to, or could not pay the 25 euros to get in, there was a bunch of interesting alternatives around the city at the same time, offering each a creative approach to the market of contemporary photography.

En quelques années, Paris Photo est devenu LE grand événement pour les galeries photo du monde entier qui veulent rencontrer leur publique français et européen. Un succès de folie, l'édition 2011 a eu lieu au Grand Palais, où énormément de gens faisait la queue devant pour entrer. Mais pour ceux qui ne voulait pas, ou ne pouvait pas se payer les 25 euros pour entrer, il y avait un tas d'alternatives intéressants au même moment, chacun avec son approche créatif pour le marché de la photographie contemporaine.

Paris Photo har på några få år blivit DEN stora grejen för fotogallerier från hela världen som vill möta sin franska och europeiska publik. En enorm succé, med 2011 års upplaga perfekt placerad i det fantastiska Grand Palais, där folk villigt köade i kylan för att komma in. Men för de som inte ville eller kunde betala 25 euro i entré, fanns det samma helg en mängd intressanta alternativ, vart och ett med sitt kreativa sätt att förnya marknaden för nutida fotografi.

Partageons le 10e

J'expose en ce moment dans le cadre de « Partageons le 10ème » avec trois autres photographes — Morgane Launay, Béatrice Téraube et Pierre Emmanuel Délétrée. C'est le fruit d’une collaboration entre nous, la maison du Canal (Régie de quartier Paris 10) et des habitants du 10ème, avec Mathilde Sasia en chargée de projet. 
Guidés par une dizaine d’adhérents, à l’occasion de plusieurs sorties à travers le 10ème de mai à septembre 2011, on a réalisé les images, qui puissent se voir comme une promenade entre l'instantanéité et l'histoire. Le vernissage a eu lieu vendredi dernier, mais l'exposition dure jusqu'au 18 novembre. La maison du Canal, Régie de Quartier Paris 10ème, 13-17 rue Louis Blanc, 75010 Paris

If you want to see my photos from the project « Partageons le 10ème » ("Share the tenth"), as well as those of three other photographers — Morgane Launay, Béatrice Téraube and Pierre Emmanuel Délétrée, it's right now at the Maison du Canal. A collaboration between us, the maison du Canal and the inhabitants of the 10th arrondissement in Paris, with Mathilde Sasia as project manager. 
The photos, that can be viewed as a stroll between present time and history, are the result of several guided tours in the neighbourhood with it's members, from May to September 2011. Jag ställer just nu ut foton inom ramen för « Partageons le 10ème » (ung. "Låt oss dela på tionde") tillsammans med tre andra fotografer — Morgane Launay, Béatrice Téraube och Pierre Emmanuel Délétrée. Utställningen är resultatet av ett samarbete mellan oss, la maison du Canal (ett kvarterscenter) och invånarna i Paris tionde arrondissemang, med Mathilde Sasia som projektledare. 
Bilderna, som kan ses som en passage mellan nuet och historien, har vi tagit från maj till september 2011, i samband med ett flertal promenader guidade av boende och föreningsmedlemmar. The third edition of Photoquai shows no less than 46 photographers from 29 countries. Here are my favourites from this Parisian biennial of non-Western photography. It only lasts until November 11, so hurry up if you don't want to miss it!

La troisième édition de Photoquai présente pas moins que 46 photographes venus de 29 pays. Voilà mes coups de cœur de cette biennale de la photographie non-occidentale. Cela se termine le 11 novembre, donc depêchez-vous si vous voulez la voir!

Den tredje upplagan av Photoquai visar inte mindre än 46 fotografer från 29 länder. Här är mina favoriter från denna Paris-biennal för ickevästerländskt foto. Den avslutas den 11 november, så skynda er om ni vill hinna se!

She is one of the gifted photographers I met during the Boehm Kobayashi workshop earlier this fall. Since then Sandra Schmalz has showed her work Elli at the Quinzane Photographique Nantaise — where she was given the QPN 2011 award. Plus her series Portrait with façade is right now at the Librairie Photographique in Paris. And on November 10 opens a group show, organized by Fetart: Il est interdit d'interdire ! ("It is forbidden to forbid!"), where you can get a glimpse of her new work. A talent to seriously watch out for.

Elle est une des photographes talentueux que j'ai rencontré lors du workshop Boehm Kobayashi en août cette année. Depuis, Sandra Schmalz a montré son travail Elli au Quinzane Photographique Nantaise — où elle a été récompensée par le prix QPN 2011. Sa série Portrait with façade est actuellement exposé à la Librairie Photographique à Paris. Et le 10 novembre ouvre une exposition collective, organisée par Fetart: Il est interdit d'interdire ! où il s'agit de ses nouveaux œuvres. Un talent à suivre attentivement…

Hon är en av de begåvade fotograferna jag lärde känna på workshopen med Boehm Kobayashi tidigare i höstas. Sedan dess har Sandra Schmalz visat sitt verk Elli på Quinzane Photographique Nantaise, där hon tilldelades priset QPN 2011. Dessutom är hennes bildserie Portrait with façade aktuell på Librairie Photographique i Paris. Och den 10 november är det vernissage för en grupputställning, organiserad av Fetart: Il est interdit d'interdire ! ("Det är förbjudet att förbjuda!"), där man kan se några av Sandras nya verk. En talang att inte släppa med blicken!

Rencontres Photographiques du 10e

Fifteen selected photographers, two exquisite corpses and a fabulous photo game by the collective Faux Amis. Thursday was the opening night for the main show of the 4th edition of the Rencontres Photographiques du 10e.

Quinze photographes sélectionnes, deux cadavres exquises et un jeu photo fabuleux signé le collectif Faux Amis. Jeudi soir a eu lieu le vernissage de l'exposition centrale du 4eme édition des Rencontres Photographiques du 10e.
Femton utvalda fotografer, två cadavres exquis och en fantastisk foto-lek av kollektivet Faux Amis. I torsdags var det vernissage för huvudutställningen i den fjärde upplagan av Rencontres Photographiques du 10e.

La belle Adeline

I got to know Adeline when taking photos at a performance of Flexible, Hop Hop! (written by Emmanuel Darley), a theater play that she is directing, and also starring in. Above you see some pics I shot recently for her actor's portfolio.

J'ai connu Adeline lorsque j'ai pris des photos à une répresentation de la pièce de théâtre Flexible, Hop Hop!, (écrit par Emmanuel Darley), qu'elle a mis en scène, et dans laquelle elle joue. Ci-dessus vous trouvez quelques images que j'ai pris récemment d'elle, pour son book d'actrice.
