Parfois on a besoin d'un regard d'extérieur pour faire un point sur son travail photographique. Pour ceux qui ont déjà acquis un certain niveau de professionnalisme, et qui ont un budget à y mettre, il y a les lectures de portfolio en tête à tête qui s'organisent parfois, notamment autour des festivals.
Pour les autres, pas forcément moins talentueux, mais plus débutantes dans leur démarche, il y a un premier pas à faire chez l'école Iris à Paris.
Chaque mois Pierre Gassin organise le Café Photo où chacun est libre, après inscription sur internet, de venir présenter ses photos au sein d'un petit groupe avec en tête un photographe professionnel qui donne son avis et qui anime une discussion autour du travail de chaqun.
J'y suis allée samedi matin, c'était ma deuxième fois, et je le recommande vivement. Il faut dire, que c'est un peu stressant de se dévoiler autant. Donc ce que j'apprécie surtout, c'est de voir comment les autres présentent leur travail. On y sort riche en expérience et impressions visuelles.
Chaque fois il y a deux lectures, avec deux groupes différents.
Mon premier groupe était : Jessica, Dana et Nathalie, et nos photos ont été vu par Andreas Mahl. Le deuxième groupe: Axelle, Thomas et Arnaud, et nos photos ont été vu par Jean-Gabriel Lopez.

Sometimes you feel the need of an exterior point of view to go through your photos. For those who has already aquired a certain level of professionalism, and who has the money to spend on it, there are the one on one portfolio reviews that are sometimes organized during festivals and such.
For the others, not necessarily less talented, but maybe more of beginners, there is a first step to take at the Iris photo school in Paris. Every month, Pierre Gassin organizes the Café Photo where everyone is welcome (after signing up on the net), to come and present their work in a small group, led by a professionnal photographer who gives his opinion and leads a discussion about the work in question.
Saturday morning, I went there for the second time, and I highly recommend the experience. It's kind of intimidating to promote yourself in such a way, I have to say. What I really appriciate the most, is to see how the others present their work. One gains a lot in experience and visual impressions. 
Every time, there are two reviews, in two different groups.
My first group was: Jessica, Dana and Nathalie, where our photos were viewed by Andreas Mahl. And the second one: Axelle, Thomas et Arnaud, photos viewed by Jean-Gabriel Lopez.

Ibland har man behov av en blick utifrån för att komma vidare i fotograferandet. För de som redan har uppnått en viss professionell nivå, och har pengar att spendera, erbjuds ofta möjligheten att visa upp sin portfolio för en expert på fotofestivaler och annat.
För oss andra, inte nödvändigtvis mindre talangfulla, men kanske mer av nybörjare, finns det ett första steg att ta hos skolan Iris i Paris. Varje månad ordnar Pierre Gassin vad som kallas för Café Photo, där var och en har möjligheten (efter att ha anmält sig via internet), att komma och presentera sina foton i en liten grupp, ledd av en professionell fotograf, som ger sin åsikt samt leder en diskussion kring var och ens arbete.
Jag var där på lördagsförmiddagen, det var andra gången för mig, och jag rekommenderar verkligen detta. Det ska sägas, att det är lite nervöst att visa upp det man gör på det här sättet, så det jag framför allt uppskattade var att se hur andra presenterar sina bilder. En sak är säker: när man går därifrån är man rik på nya erfarenheter och visuella intryck.
Det hela är uppdelat på två omgångar, med två olika grupper.
Min första grupp var: Jessica, Dana och Nathalie, och våra foton fick sågs av Andreas Mahl. Grupp nummer två: Axelle, Thomas och Arnaud, och våra foton fick sågs av Jean-Gabriel Lopez.

En ce moment précis, se fait la délibération d'un concours où j'ai participé, sur le thème du quartier de Chaillot.
Je suis allée voir toutes les photos participantes aujourd'hui à midi; elles sont exposées à la mairie du 16eme arrondissement. J'étais un peu déçu, parce qu'on n'y affiche ni les auteurs, ni les légendes que j'avais fournies pour mes photos. Tant pis.
Naturellement, je vous tiens au courant pour le résultat.

Just this very moment, the result of a contest where I have participated, with "Chaillot" as a theme, is coming to a conclusion.
On my lunch break, I went to see all the entries, as they are exposed at the mairie of the 16th arrondissement. I was a little disappointed, because they don't tell who did each photo, and the texts I sent with my photos aren't shown either. Well, not much to do about it.
Of course, I'll keep you posted on the result.

Just nu, avgörs vinnarna i en tävling som jag deltar i, på temat "kvarteret Chaillot".
På lunchrasten idag, var jag och tittade på alla tävlingsbidragen, då dessa finns utställda i borgmästeriet i sextonde arrondissemanget. Jag blev lite besviken, för det står inte vem som har tagit bilderna, och inte heller har de tagit med mina bildtexter. Inte myckat att göra något åt.
Jag håller er naturligtvis underrättade om resultatet.

Hier soir, avec une certaine difficulté (comme je n'étais pas sur la liste des invités), j'ai réussi à entrer au vernissage chez Agnès b. pour de l'air, 10 ans de photos.

Le magazine de l'air a été créé en 2000, fondé indépendamment des groupes de presse, et revendique un éclectisme total dans le traitement et le choix des sujets.

À cette rétrospective, on trouve plus de 80 tirages photographiques — mais aussi des maquettes, des cromalins et des livres. Oscillant entre le reportage et la photo artistique, l'exposition propose une belle sélection d'images contemporaines, qui séduisent à la fois par leur actualité et par leurs qualités visuelles. Jusqu'au 20 juin.

Yesterday evening, after some hazzle (since I wasn't on the invitation list), I managed to get in to the opening at the Agnès b. de l'air, 10 ans de photos show.

The magazine de l'air, created in 2000, was founded without involvement from any big magazine group, and claims total eclecticism in the choice and handling of its subjects.

This retrospective exhibition shows no less than over 80 photos — but also lay-outs, printer's proofs and books. Swinging from reportage to photo art and back again, it offers an excellent selection of contemporary images who appeal due to their news value as well as their visual qualities. Until June 20.

Igår kväll, lyckades jag efter visst besvär (p.g.a. att jag inte stod med på inbjudningslistan), ta mig in på vernissagen de l'air, 10 ans de photos hos Agnès b.

Tidningen de l'air, som grundades 2000, startades utan finansering från någon av de större tidningsförläggarna, och kör med total stilmix, både vad gäller behandlingen och valet av ämnen.

Den här retrospektiva utställningen innehåller över 80 fotografier — men även layouter, cromor och böcker. Den pendlar mellan reportage och konstfoto, och visar upp ett snyggt urval av samtida bilder som berör såväl med sin aktualitet som med sina visuella kvaliteter. T.o.m. 20 juni.

Paris Photography Meetup Group

Chaque premier lundi du mois, The Paris Photography Meetup Group a rendez-vous au bar La Panfoulia, au centre du Paris, pour un apéro photo.

Discuter, prendre un verre ainsi que montrer ses photos — ou voir celles des autres — sont les choses qui fait venir des photographes amateurs parisiens, d'originaires du monde entier, à cette soirée.

Le groupe organise aussi des activités les week-ends. Samedi dernier, il y avait un tour au marché photo de Bièvres, avec son célèbre "brocante photo", et dimanche prochain il y aurait probablement une sortie à Chantilly et les courses de La Prix de Diane, connus pour sa tradition de femmes joliment chapeautées.

Évidemment, toute personne passionnée par la photo est la bienvenue. À bientôt !

The first monday in every month, The Paris Photography Meetup Group get together at the bar Panfoulia, in the center of Paris, for a monthly meetup.

Discussions, drinks and the possibility to show your own work or see what others are doing is what makes this a must for Parisian-based amateur photographers from all around the world.

The group also organizes activities in the weekends. Last Saturday, there was a trip to the Bièvres International photofair, and its wellknown secondhand market, and Sunday there will hopefully be a photo trip to Chantilly and the horse race La Prix de Diane, famous for its tradition of women in extravagant hats. 

Of course, anyone interested in photography is welcome to join in. See you soon!

Den första måndagen i varje månad, samlas The Paris Photography Meetup Group på baren Panfoulia, i hjärtat av Paris, för att ta ett glas ihop.

Foto-prat, drycker och möjligheten att visa sina bilder, eller se andras, gör detta till ett måste för många Paris-baserade amatörfotografer från hela världen.

Gruppen ordnar också olika helgaktiviteter. Förra lördagen, var det en tur till den internationella fotomässan i Bièvres, med sin kända andrahandsmarknad, och nästa söndag blir det förhoppningsvis en fotoexcursion till Chantilly och hästkapplöpningen La Prix de Diane, berömd för sin tradition med damer i fantastiska hattar. 

Alla med ett stort fotointresse är givetvis välkomna. Vi ses!

On the hottest of summer days, I went on a gallery walk with the Creative professionals in Paris' network. Guided by Laura, we first visited the World Press Photo 2010 show, with it's mix of war, social issues, nature and sports achievements. Lots of strong pictures, not for the most sensible ones!

We then headed on to the Galérie VU and saw the impressive exhibition "Resiliences, an approach of photography in Spain at the turn of 1960". An excellent lesson in black and white photography!

We finished our afternoon together with much deserved drinks at a café.

On my way home, I came by the Wanted Paris gallery, and saw the series "Remains, photos of a world already lost", by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre. Oh, what beautiful decay !

La plus chaude des journées d'été, je suis allée faire un tour en galerie avec le groupe Creative professionals in Paris'. Guidée par Laura, on a d'abord visité l'expo World Press Photo 2010, avec son pêle-mêle de guerre, société, nature et prestations sportives. Des photos incroyablement fortes, mais que les âmes sensibles s'abstiennent !

Ensuite, on a continué à la Galerie VU pour l'impressionnante "Résiliences, une photographie de l'Espagne au tournant des années 1950-1960". Une excellente leçon en photographie noir et blanc !

Nous avons fini l'après-midi en terrasse avec des rafraîchissements bien mérités.

Sur mon retour, j'ai fait un saut à la galerie Wanted Paris, où j'ai vu la série "Vestiges, photos d'un monde déjà perdu", par Yves Marchand et Romain Meffre. Terriblement belle, le délabrement !

Den varmaste dagen hittills i sommar, begav jag mig på gallerirunda med gruppen Creative professionals in Paris. Guidade av Laura, började vi med att besöka utställningen World Press Photo 2010, med dess blandning av krig, sociala företeelser, natur och sportprestationer. Många fantastiskt starka bilder, men inget för känsliga själar!

Vi begav oss sedan till Galérie VU och såg den imponerande utställningen "Resiliences, fotografi i Spanien omkring 1960". En utmärkt lektion i svartvitt foto!

Eftermiddagen avslutades med en välförtjänt drickapaus på uteservering.

På hemvägen tittade jag förbi galleriet Wanted Paris, och såg serien "Remains, foton från en redan förlorad värld", av Yves Marchand och Romain Meffre. Oh, ett så vackert förfall!

Miss S & Illuminations

Hier soir, je suis allée au vernissage d'une amie flickrienne, Sandrine. Elle expose en ce moment des photos à La Maison du Canal (oui, c'est le même endroit où j'ai fait mon exposition Directions cet hiver). 

Sandrine a eu le déclic de photographe en réalisant des autoportraits. Elle a fait deux ans au rythme d'un self par jour ! De cet énorme projet viennent les photos qu'elle expose ici, une série intitulée Being a woman, des images sensuelles et féminines qui expriment la belle personnalité de Miss S. Jusqu'au 11 juin.

Yesterday night, I went to the opening of a show by a Flickr friend of mine, Sandrine. At the moment, she's exhibiting photos at La Maison du Canal (yes, it's the same place where I had my show Directions last winter). 

Sandrine got hooked up on photography when she started to do selfportraits. She did one SP a day during two full years! From this huge project comes the photos she's now showing, a series called Being a woman. Those are sensual and feminine images that expresses the beautiful personality of Miss S. Until June, 11.

Igår kväll var jag på vernissagen för en flickr-bekant, Sandrine. Hon ställer just nu ut foton på La Maison du Canal (ja, det är samma ställe där jag hade min utställning Directions i vintras). 

Sandrine kom igång med fotograferandet då hon arbetade på en serie självporträtt. Hon hann med ett självporträtt om dagen i två års tid! Från detta stora projekt har hon hämtat bilderna hon nu ställer ut här, en serie kallad Being a woman. Det är sensuella och feminina bilder, som fint utrycker Miss S personlighet. T.o.m 11 juni.

Ensuite, j'ai continué à la Galérie G, pour le vernissage de l'expo Illuminations. Ces sont des œuvres multimedia assez étonnants — j'ai particulièrement flashé sur l'œuvre Fantôme(s) de Vincent Lévy — et l'expo vaut largement le détour. Jusqu'au 19 juin.

Afterwards, I continued to the Galérie G, for the opening of the show Illuminations. It contains multimedia works that are quite interesting — I particularly was intrigued by Fantôme(s) by Vincent Lévy — and the exhibition really deserves a visit. Until June, 19.

Sedan begav jag mig till Galérie G, där det var vernissage för utställningen Illuminations. Det rör sig om ett flertal mycket intressanta multimediainstallationer — jag föll särskilt för Fantôme(s) av Vincent Lévy — och utställningen är verkligen värd ett besök. T.o.m 19 juni.

Ce week-end, c'est la 21e édition des Portes Ouvertes des ateliers d'artistes de Belleville, et c'est l'occasion d'y faire un tour pour mieux connaître les nombreux talents de ce quartier de Paris.

Vendredi soir, je me suis donc trouvée dans l'atelier de Sylvie Poulain, dans la charmante rue Mouzaïa, pour admirer ses photos et boire un verre avec ses amis. 

En regardant son travail, on aurait pu croire que ce sont des photomontages, mais Sylvie pose malicieusement des petits miroirs un peu partout et laisse le ciel s'incruster dans la terre, un arbre dans la mer, des cheveux sur un dos… C'est un vrai démarche d'artiste, avec une cohérence exemplaire, pleine d'invention et de personnalité. 4, rue de Mouzaïa, 75019 Paris. This week-end, there is the 21st edition of Portes Ouvertes des ateliers d'artistes de Belleville, and it's a great opportunity to go around and get to know all the talents you find in this Parisian neighbourhood.

Friday night, I therefore found myself at the studio of Sylvie Poulain, in the charming street of Mouzaïa, to admire her work and have a glass with her friends.

When you take a look at her work, you could believe that it's the result of image post processing, but instead, Sylvie cleverly puts little mirrors just about everywhere and lets the sky blend with the ground, a tree with the sea, the hair with the skin of a back… It's an artist's approach, with a clear consistency, full of invention and personality. 4, rue de Mouzaïa, 75019 Paris. Den här helgen, är det dags för den 21a upplagan av Portes Ouvertes des ateliers d'artistes de Belleville, och det är ett bra tillfälle att ta en vända för att stifta närmare bekantskap med de många talanger som håller till i den här delen av Paris.

Fredag kväll, befann jag mig sålunda i Sylvie Poulains ateljé, på den charmerande rue Mouzaïa, för att beundra henne bilder och ta ett glas med några av hennes vänner.

Då man betraktar hennes foton, skulle man kunna tro att det handlar om fotomontage, men Sylvie placerar på ett fyndigt vis små speglar lite överallt, och låter på så sätt himlen blanda sig med jorden, ett träd växa i havet, hår smälta in med huden på en rygg… Det är ett konstnärligt tillvägagångsätt,  genomtänkt och konsekvent, fyllt av uppfinnarglädje och personlighet. 4, rue de Mouzaïa, 75019 Paris.
