Six people in one small room

The photo fanzine "Six people in one small room" was created by me and five other photographers, guided by the duo Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber of Boehm Kobayashi. It all happened during a workshop organized by PiY and LE BAL books, and this is how we made it.

Tout cela pendant un workshop organisé par PiY et LE BAL books et voilà comment ça s'est passé.

Fotofanzinet "Six people in one small room"(Sex personer i ett litet rum) gjordes av mig och fem andra fotografer, ledda av duon Katja Stuke och Oliver Sieber, som är Boehm Kobayashi. Allt detta under en workshop organiserad av PiY och LE BAL books, och så här gick det till.

Isa & Greg - The Wedding/Le Mariage/Bröllopsyra

I've been following a friend, Isabelle, with my camera through some lifechanging moments: her engagement with boyfriend Greg two years ago, then her pregnancy and the birth of their little daughter, Juliette. Now it was time for the weddingbells to ring and I had the honor of being the official photographer at the event, that took place in a Normandy château, ideal surroundings for wedding photography indeed… Here are some of my own favourite pics.

J'ai suivi une amie, Isabelle, avec mon appareil photo pendant quelques années où sa vie à beaucoup changé. Elle s'est fiancée avec son copain Greg il y a deux ans, puis elle est tombée enceinte et ils ont eu une petite princesse, Juliette. Le weekend dernier, le moment est venu pour fêter le mariage et j'ai eu l'immence honneur d'être élue photographe attitrée de l'évenement, qui a eu lieu dans un sublime château dans sa Normandie natale. Le cadre parfait pour des photos de mariage… Voici quelques unes de mes images préférées.

Jag har följt en väninna, Isablle, med min kamera genom ett par år kantade av stora händelser: förlovningen med pojkvännen Greg för två år sedan, sedan graviditeten följd av ankomsten av en liten dotter, Juliette. Nu var det dags för bröllopsklockerna att ringa och jag hade äran att vara utsedd till officiell bröllopsfotograf. Festen ägde rum på ett slott i Normandie, det perfekta stället för att ta bröllopsfotografier… Här är några av mina egna favoritbilder.

I held my first workshop ever yesterday at the associative company Ares in Paris. Three courageous "students" — Saloua, Neb-Noma and Naïma — together with Aimée from the Ares staff, met up for a fastforward introduction to portrait photography. After showing and discussing a selection of inspirational work from, among others, Nan Goldin (of course), Daido Moriyama, Ben Watts and Annie Leibowitz, it was time to create the portraits ourselves, so we headed out for the assignment I had set up. First you take a picture of me like you see me. Then you take another one where it's me who decide how I want to be seen. It all worked out pretty well, to be honest I was amazed with such creative potential! After a shy start, the ideas from everyone just got crazier and crazier and the group ended up with some really neat shots of each participant. Next time the theme is "colour". I'm already looking forward to see where that leads us…

J'ai animé mon premier atelier photo hier, au sein de l'entreprise Ares association, à Paris. Trois courageux stagiaires — Saloua, Neb-Noma et Naïma — ainsi que Aimée de l'équipe Ares, se sont retrouvés pour un cours express en portrait photo. Après un visionnage et une discussion autour des images d'inspiration de, entre autres, Nan Goldin (évidemment), Daido Moriyama, Ben Watts et Annie Leibowitz, c'était à leur tour de créer. On est donc sorti pour le défi que j'avais préparé :   Prends une photo de moi, comme tu me vois, puis tu prends une autre où c'est moi qui décide comment j'ai envie d'être vu. Tout c'est merveilleusement bien passé — pour être honnête j'ai été bouleversé par leur potentiel créatif ! Après un démarrage plutôt timide, tout le monde s'est complêtement laché et à la fin on avait quelques portraits vraiment sympa de chaque participant. La prochaine fois, le thème sera "la couleur". J'ai déjà hâte de voir ce que cela va donner…

Jag höll i min första fotoworkshop igår hos integrations-företaget Ares i Paris. Tre modiga deltagare — Saloua, Neb-Noma and Naïma — samt Aimée från Ares personal, hade mött upp för en snabbintroduktion till porträttfotografering. Efter att ha visat och diskuterat inspirerande bilder från, bland annat, Nan Goldin (förstås), Daido Moriyama, Ben Watts och Annie Leibowitz, var det dags att skapa något själva, så vi begav oss ut för att ta itu med uppgiften jag hade förberett. Först tar du en bild av mig, som du ser mig, sedan fotograferar du mig som jag vill bli sedd. Allt fungerade bra och jag var ärligt talat mycket imponerad av gruppens kreativa potential! Efter en lite blyg början, släppte alla loss ordentligt och i slutändan hade vi ett flertal intressanta porträtt av varje deltagare. Nästa gång är temat "färg". Jag är redan nyfiken på resultatet…

Best of Arles

Arles in July is the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie (first photo festival in the world founded in 1969), but also the alternative festival Voies Off, plus smaller exhibitions in every corner of the town. This year, it was my first time visiting this famous event. Here are my favourite discoveries from four very intense days.

Arles en juillet, c'est les Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie (premier festival photo au monde, fondé en 1969), mais aussi l'alternative Voies Off, ainsi que des événements dans tous les coins de la ville. Cette année, c'était la première fois que j'ai assisté à ce "must" du paysage photographique en France. Voici mes coups de cœur de quatre jours très intenses.

Arles erbjuder under juli månad Les Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie (världens första fotofestival, grundad 1969), men här finns även alternativet Voies Off, samt en antal mindre evenemang lite överallt i staden. För mig var det första gången jag upplevde denna fantastiska fotofest. Här är mina favoriter från fyra intensiva dagar.

Chiara Tocci

No need to have an actual gallery space to show your work. In Arles any place is possible. Wednesday I came by a very cool opening, happening right in the middle of the street, red wine from a box being served in plastic cups to people strolling by. It turned out, the exhibition was right there, in the window of a pharmacy. Indeed a cure for sore eyes! I had a chat with one of the photographers, a lovely italian girl named Chiara Tocci, currently living in Great Britain. Her photos are those to the right, with a beautiful lighting, a long term project from Albania. The space was shared with Will Hartley and the show was organized by Joni Karanka of Third Floor Gallery. Chiara is among the winners of the FreshFacedandWildEyed2011 and will be showing her work in Italy this fall. A talent to keep your eyes on.

Pas besoin d'un espace galerie pour montrer son travail. À Arles tout est possible. Mercredi, je suis tombée sur un vernissage hyper sympa, au milieu de la rue où on servait du vin rouge d'un cubi dans des gobelets en plastiques, aux piétons qui passaient. Au fait, l'expo était juste là, dans le vitre d'un pharmacie. Le parfait remède pour des yeux fatigués. J'ai profité pour discuter un peu avec un des photographes exposants, une jeune italienne charmante, Chiara Tocci, qui vit actuellement en Grande Bretagne. Ses photos, caractérisées par un très belles lumière, font parti d'un projet en long terme en l'Albanie. La vitrine était partagé avec Will Hartley et l'expo était organisé par Joni Karanka de Third Floor Gallery. Chiara se trouve parmis les gagnants de FreshFacedandWildEyed2011 et exposera son travail en Italie cet automne. Un talent à suivre de près.

Man behöver inte ha en gallerilokal för att ställa ut. I Arles är alla platser en potentiell utställningsyta. I onsdags eftermiddag hamnade jag på en väldigt cool vernissage, mitt i gatan, med rött lådvin som serverades i plastmuggar till förbipasserande. Det visade sig att utställingen var precis där, i skyltfönstret till ett apotek. Verkligen en kur för trötta ögon! Jag passade på att prata lite med en av de medverkande fotograferna, en mycket trevlig italienska vid namn Chiara Tocci, för tillfället bosatt i Storbritannien. Hennes bilder är de till höger, med ett mycket vackert ljus. De ingår i ett långtidsprojekt hon arbetar på i Albanien. Fotona till vänster är tagna av Will Hartley och det hela organiserades av Joni Karanka och Third Floor Gallery. Chiara finns med bland vinnarna av FreshFacedandWildEyed2011 och ställer ut i Italien till hösten. En talang att hålla ögonen på.
